About Barbara Peterson

I am a landscape design consultant and project coordinator experienced in all aspects of outdoor space planning, a rewarding field that has allowed me to do what I love for over 20 years. I am professionally trained in horticulture and landscape design and am a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) and the Massachusetts Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA) .

I live in Boston, Massachusetts and over the years I have had the good fortune to design and implement many challenging and exciting projects of varying complexity and scale in Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island and Maine.

My design style is natural, balanced and flowing — yet organized, with strong structural components. Along with a harmonious mix of trees, shrubs and perennials, I often enhance the design with stone walls and paths, arbors and trellises, ponds, fences and gates. My approach to each design is influenced by the existing architecture and natural surroundings and by those who will enjoy the space.

Beyond my work in garden design, I plan and direct the overall development of the landscape which usually includes suggestions for outdoor lighting, drainage and grading guidance and overseeing the improvements to the surrounding natural landscape. I also design driveways, retaining walls, swimming pools and decks.

Whether a project is a small garden design or an overall landscape plan, I have always enjoyed consulting with my clients and working closely with them to create personal and livable outdoor environments. I am inspired by design challenges and continue to learn more about my craft everyday.

"One of my goals as a

help strengthen the bond
between people and the

that surrounds us."
